Confidential Letter Sets Rules for Consistory Discussions: SilereNonPossum.com has published a confidential letter sent to participants of the Consistory on 26–27 June. The document outlines the consistory's schedule and working methods. Cardinals are divided into 20 discussion groups. Participants are given a three-minute speaking limit in the first round and a two-minute limit in the second. Each group is required to prepare a written report. Leo XIV convenes the cardinals: confidential note sets out programme and calls for discretion

Vatican City - A confidential briefing note, dated 16 June and accompanied by the detailed schedule of proceedings, has reached the members of the Sacred College in recent hours. It confirms the convocation of the Extraordinary Consistory, called by Leo XIV for 26 and 27 June 2026, and sets out its programme, method and - with an insistence that is hardly accidental - the requirements of confidentiality.
The document begins from a programmatic premise: since his election, the Pope has expressed his wish to draw upon “the wealth of experience and wisdom” of the College. The two days are therefore conceived not as a deliberative assembly, but as a time of fraternal exchange around some of the challenges that today confront the life and mission of the Church.
The four sessions
The proceedings are structured around four main moments, divided between the Paul VI Hall and the New Synod Hall.
Friday 26 June begins at 7.30 a.m. with Holy Mass in St Peter’s Basilica, presided over by Leo XIV …

Leo XIV Against Remigration of Migrants: Asked about “remigration” of immigrants, Pope Leo XIV replied on Tuesday in Castel Gandolfo: “Simply saying, ‘We send them away, and then the problem is off our hands,’ does not seem to me to be the most Christian response.” He said migrants should be respected as persons, their reasons for leaving considered, and their cases examined individually.

Sulla questione remigrazione, esorta a trattare “con rispetto ogni persona”: “Dire mandiamo via, così ci laviamo le mani, non mi sembra una risposta cristiana”.

Protestant Prayer and the Catholic Mass as “Different Pathways to God”: “Catholic” U.S. Vice President JD Vance appeared to relativize the Catholic Church and the Eucharist during a June 16 interview on Fox & Friends. Speaking about what he called the strength of “the American church,” Vance emphasized the diversity of [contradicting] Christian denominations: “You can't be an American Catholic or an American Pentecostal or an American Southern Baptist without running into someone who has a slightly different perspective on faith.” He added: “It's all about Jesus.” Vance sees "different ways" by which people find God: “Different ways, sometimes with 'snake handlers' [evangelicals in Kentucky], sometimes with speaking in tongues, sometimes with a beautiful Catholic mass, but I think all these pathways really matter and they're part of the reason why we do find our path to God.”

JD Vance: "One of the things I love about the American church is there are all of these different pathways to God ... sometimes with snake handlers, sometimes with speaking in tongues, sometimes with a beautiful Catholic mass. But I think all of these pathways really matter."

Bishop Appointed by Leo XIV Backs ‘Female Pope’ Campaign The Diocese of St. Gallen, Switzerland, launched its "I’m In" ("Ich bin dabei") campaign on May 4 across 25 towns and villages. The billboard, web and social media campaign features clergy, church employees and volunteers posing provocative questions. One poster shows a pastoral worker asking: “Shall we pave the way for the election of the first female Pope?” — followed by the campaign’s signature response: "I’m in." Pope Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Beat Grögli as Bishop of St. Gallen in May 2025, despite his publicly known support for the ordination of women

Cistercian Abbot: Vocations Decline Because We Became Tasteless Salt

In our time, authority is deeply discredited, both in society and in the Church, whether because of excess or deficiency. This was said by Father Francisco Rivera, 46, on June 14 in an interview with VidaNuevaDigital.com.
He was elected on May 20 as the new abbot of the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María de Huerta in Soria, Spain. It is one of Spain’s great monasteries and one of the most important historic houses of the Cistercian Order.
Father Rivera acknowledged that the number of vocations has declined drastically: “We can blame the world, its values or lack of them, young people, social media, and so on. But I believe consecrated life must also undertake a rigorous examination of conscience. Perhaps we have become a kind of tasteless salt. And we know what the Lord Jesus says in the Gospel about that.”
For the new abbot, the best vocation campaign is “to live, in our case, a serious and coherent monastic life, in fidelity to our monastic commitments and to the Rule of Saint …Ọzọ

Peace Deal Made… But the Hunger Crisis Just Evolved
Peace Deal Signed — But the Hunger Crisis Just Evolved | Updated Hormuz Model A framework deal has been reached between the United States and Iran to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. But does this mean the global food crisis is over? In this video, we update the “From Hormuz to Hunger” model with the latest developments — including the peace deal, confirmed El Niño, severe Western drought, New World Screwworm confirmed in Texas, and declining U.S. meat processing capacity.
We break down what has changed, what remains locked in, and how close (or far) we are from the original high-end estimates. The original 225 million figure was never a prediction — it was a boundary condition showing how thin the margins are when multiple systems fail at once. Even with a deal in place, that structure hasn’t disappeared. We’re tracking this story with documents, not opinions.

Fake Abuse Claims - Chicago Archdiocese Can Continue Lawsuit

An Illinois judge ruled last week that the Archdiocese of Chicago may continue its lawsuit against a group of people accused of making false sexual abuse claims.
The lawsuit, filed in 2025, says that more than two dozen people took part in a plan to make false abuse accusations in order to receive money from settlement payments by the archdiocese.
According to court documents, the group allegedly recruited people to make claims, coached them on what to say, and shared the money received from settlements. The archdiocese says its investigation was helped by recorded prison phone calls in which the alleged scheme was discussed.
The recent ruling does not decide whether the allegations are true. It only rejects efforts to dismiss the case and allows the Archdiocese's lawsuit to continue.
The abuse claims involve former priest Daniel McCormack, who pleaded guilty in 2007 to several counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and has many confirmed victims.
Cardinal Blase Cupich said the Church …Ọzọ

Homosexual UK Couple Convicted of Murdering and Abusing Adopted Toddler

A former teacher and his homosexual partner, a financial sales manager, have been convicted at Preston Crown Court, Lancashire, of murdering and sexually abusing a toddler they were in the process of adopting.
Jamie Varley, 37, was found guilty of murder, two counts of assault by penetration, multiple counts of child cruelty, grievous bodily harm, and offences involving indecent images.
John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child, child cruelty, and sexual assault.
The victim was born on June 16, 2022, at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester. Five days later, social services placed him with foster carers under an emergency order. His mother had a long criminal record, including a murder conviction in 1998.
Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley were approved as prospective adopters in January 2023, and the boy moved into their home in April 2023.
Prosecutors said the child was subjected to sustained abuse almost immediately after his placement.

"Devil" Beer Tap in Belgian Confessional: A deconsecrated church built in 1878 in Antwerp, Belgium, has served as a foyer for Theater Elckerlyc since 2025. One confessional now contains a token machine, while another has been fitted with a self-service Duvel 6.66% beer tap. "Duvel" is Dutch for "devil" and is also the name of a Belgian beer brand. An earlier report claimed the diocese had approved the concept, but the article was corrected on 10 June: the diocese says it was not involved in the redevelopment.

Devil installed in confessional with Church's blessing

Duvel - Flemish dialect word for Devil - beer vending machine in confessional in Antwerp: “The diocese even thought it was a good idea”
Antwerp “Is this really how we treat our ecclesiastical heritage?” Outrage has arisen on social media regarding two confessionals in the former Church of Our Lady of Grace on Frankrijklei, which has served as the foyer of Theater Elckerlyc since last year. You can no longer go there to confess your sins, but you can to buy tokens or tap a Duvel 6.66%.
Although both confessionals have been part of the foyer for more than a year, a new debate arose this week after a theatergoer shared a photo of the token vending machine in a confessional on Facebook. The person in question criticized the way religious heritage is being handled. The numerous responses show that the repurposing of ecclesiastical elements remains a sensitive subject for some people, even though the Church of Our Lady of Grace has been deconsecrated for quite some time and the building now …

Leo XIV Calls for "New International Financial Framework"

Pope Leo XIV published today a video message for the climate World Summit in Vienna, Austria. He called for a "just transition" to new economic models, urged wealthy nations to provide greater financial support, and advocated the development of a new international financial framework. All this is presented within the façade and language of Catholic social teaching and care for creation and the poor. Three key quotes, emphasis added.
- "These challenges [peace, natural resources, climate change] require international cooperation, together with cohesive and forward-looking multilateralism in order to find effective solutions."
- "It is not merely desirable but also genuinely possible that the progress at COP30 [United Nations’ climate summit] can be followed up with a just transition toward societies where the common good takes precedence over profit, and economic models are rooted in solidarity and human dignity. Yet, this requires wealthier countries to meet their obligations to …Ọzọ
