Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller declared that the Marian title Co-Redemptrix expresses “a truth objectively contained in revelation”. He said at the De Maria numquam satis conference in Rome on October 8 that the title is neither “a misleading attribution nor an enthusiastic exaggeration.” “This title must not be silenced because of rejection by Protestants,” Cardinal Müller said, criticizing the Protestant understanding of justification for excluding man's free cooperation in redemption. Former Italian priest Luca Favarin, 54, has become a father. After 25 years as a priest in the Diocese of Padua, Favarin welcomed his son Zaccaria on September 28. “If necessary, I will have the courage to die for you, because I have seen the most beautiful thing: the birth of a child,” he wrote on facebook. Favarin became known for his work with illegal immigrants, prisoners and people on the margins, as well as his commitment to homosexual privileges. He also denied Catholic teaching on assisted dying. Monsignor Rossetti Continues Deliverance Ministry Despite Removal as Exorcist Monsignor Stephen Rossetti, removed in June as an exorcist by Washington Cardinal Robert McElroy, is continuing his deliverance ministry. In an August 3 email to subscribers, Monsignor Rossetti said he remains a priest in good standing in his home Diocese of Syracuse, New York, and will continue his work through the St. Michael Center, which operates within the territory of the Washington archdiocese. On June 3, Cardinal McElroy removed Rossetti as an archdiocesan exorcist and ended all affiliation between the Archdiocese of Washington and Rossetti's St. Michael Center. Monsignor Rossetti argues that he retains priestly faculties in several dioceses and exorcist faculties in two others. He also says his own bishop has encouraged him to continue the ministry. Only 45% of US Bishops Say Homosexuality Disqualifies from Priesthood The University of Notre Dame's McGrath Institute for Church Life has published on July 17 a report containing twelve proposals for assessing candidates for the priesthood. Entitled, "Do You Know Them to Be Worthy?", the file was written by Father Thomas V. Berg and psychologist Timothy G. Lock. The report draws on research commissioned from the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) and a consultation held at Notre Dame in September 2025. The proposals concern psychological assessment, candidates with particular psychological or developmental conditions, and formation for chastity and celibacy. It addresses candidates with conditions including ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism spectrum disorder. Leo XIV Approves Maronite Archbishop of Damascus Today, Pope Leo XIV has approved the election of Sharbel Ghattas Maroun as the new Maronite Catholic archbishop of Damascus. A Lebanese-born priest, he has spent much of his ministry in the United States. Archbishop Maroun, 64, was elected by the Synod of Bishops of the Maronite Church.
